  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic optional or to taste
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups converted white rice like Uncle Ben’s
  • 3 cups chicken broth

Instructions
 

  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  • If using garlic, add and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Stir to coat.
  • Add the rice and toast for 2–3 minutes, stirring often.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18–20 minutes.
  • Turn off heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
  • Fluff with a fork and serve warm.

Add-ins like peas, shredded chicken, or herbs make this dish even more versatile and satisfying!
