Instructions
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
If using garlic, add and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Season with salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Stir to coat.
Add the rice and toast for 2–3 minutes, stirring often.
Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a gentle boil.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18–20 minutes.
Turn off heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
Fluff with a fork and serve warm.
