Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs chicken pieces
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup vinegar
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp whole peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • water as needed

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a pot and sauté the garlic and onion until soft and fragrant.
  • Add the chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned on the outside.
  • Pour in the soy sauce and vinegar. Do not stir; let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Add bay leaves and peppercorns, then stir and pour in enough water to partly cover the chicken.
  • Cover and simmer over medium heat for 25–30 minutes or until the chicken is tender and the sauce has reduced.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice.

Notes

Adjust soy sauce and vinegar ratio based on personal taste. You can also add potatoes or boiled eggs for variation.
