Instructions
Empty the canned red beans into a medium saucepan. Add the 1/4 cup of water and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Using a fork or potato masher, mash about half of the beans. This creates a creamy texture while leaving some beans whole for balance.
Stir in the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, hot sauce, liquid smoke, and bacon fat. Mix until well combined.
Lower the heat and let the beans cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Scoop the red beans into bowls and top with a generous serving of cooked white rice.
Optional: Garnish with green onions, smoked paprika, or a drizzle of hot sauce for extra flavor.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, replace bacon fat with butter or olive oil. Add smoked paprika or cayenne for extra flavor.
